Ian is now 9 years of age. His brother Tyler survived the
accident but has a residual Traumatic Brain Injury that requires occupational
and physical therapy.
* Write a narrative “interview” in which you communicate
with Ian in an effort to get to know him.
* Write a narrative “interview” in which you talk with Ian’s
mother about him.
* Who is Ian? What kind of child is he? What might someone
expect upon meeting him for the first time? Base Ian’s imagined personality on
what you know about he and his family so far.
1. When trying to talk to Ian about his childhood I feel that he might be a bit hesitant to talk about the car accident at first since it only happend 2 years prior. To try and build rapport with him it would be best to ask him what his favorite memory with his older brother, Tyler, was when they were younger. Then I'd ask about his friends insdie and outside of school, and the activites they liked to do. Hopefully conversing about these topics wille enable Ian to become engaged and feel comfortable enough to open up about more personal issues. Moving forward, I would ask what his earliest childhood memory was. Then proceed to ask what's his happiest and saddest memory. Based on his body language and response I'd see whether or not it'd be appropriate to inquire about his late father, Phil. It would be interesting to see whether or not he is resentful or upset at him. Seeing how that conversation would go, I'd then ask him how he felt when Eric was around. I'd also ask him how he currently gets along with Tyler. Situation permitting, I feel that if an opportunity presented itself about he amputation of his legs, I wonder how Ian would talk about it and his feelings. This issue would definitely encompass his true morale and spirit. To so resilience at age 9 would be phenomenal. Even at Ian's current age, it would be hard for him to have a fully developed conceptualization of all the events in his life thus far.
ReplyDelete2. Clearly this woman has had an extremely hard married life since Phil deployed overseas. Expecting a newborn without the presence of your husband is unimaginable. At this point, Leila has the world on her shoulders when welcoming little Ian into the world. To later learn that your loved one has been a casuality of war is devastating nonetheless. Life growing up for Ian must have showed a void without a consistent fatherly figure present. I'd ask her about Ian starting from the beginning, seeing if she noticed any specific differences in Ian's early childhood compared to Tyler's during that timeframe. Next I'd speculate about the overall relationship Ian has had with Tyler. I'd expect that ian would look up to and try to mimic his big brother. I'd imagine that Ian progressed through school normally by making friends. After that it would be necessary to delve into Ian's relationship with Eric. From what has been previously state, it can be assumed that Ian enjoyed Eric's company very much. It's evident that both Tyler and Ian were having fun on the way to the baseball game before the horrific accident. However, a traumatic event such as that would have the power to alter one's spirit and personality. Leila would have the most insight to any changes in Ian's behavior. I'm sure when hearing Leila disucss the grieving process Ian went through after amputating both of his legs it would be evident that his spirit dwindled. This is totally normal since amputation during anyone's lifetime, especially a child's, would be unbelievably upsetting.
ReplyDelete3. Ian is a young boy who has overcome several hardships that most people would never experience in their lifetime. As long as he has a positive and motivational support team, I see no reason as to why he could not continue to rise against the odds. As a young individual, he is dealing as best he know how to the challenges that present themselves. For such a young boy, he has a mighty heart and courageous perserverence. Someone would probably expect Ian to be either shy, depressed or defiant upon meeting him for the first time if they knew his background story.
